Tiger's Tail Retreat Centre
Paro, Bhutan
Tiger's Tail is located in western Bhutan, in the Paro Valley, about an hour's drive from the capital, Thimphu. Tiger's Tail is a long-term retreat centre. As the name implies, the location faces the Tiger's Nest monastery, built high on a cliff that rises some 900 metres above the valley floor. The location celebrates the sacred cave where Guru Rinpoche practised in retreat some 1200 years ago and subdued the forces hostile to Buddhism. It is a hallowed pilgrimage destination for vajrayana Buddhists.
The Tiger's Tail centre has small cabins among the green pine trees. All the huts face Tiger's Nest, and the Paro-chu (Paro river) flows just below the centre.
A permanent staff of five takes care of the centre.
People who wish to do a retreat at the Tiger's Tail must obtain permission from Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche.
