Australian Online Studies 2012

Presented by Jakob Leschly

Note: Registration for the 2012 online studies is available only for residents in Australia

This year Jakob Leschly will be presenting two online seminar series on key Buddhist works. Students read the sections of the specific text prior to the online classes, where Jakob unpacks and summarizes the text, using a live PowerPoint presentation which is visible on your computer. After the lecture, course notes are available on the associated website. The webinar format offers both real-time participation and recordings of the classes.

Series 1: THE TRUTH OF SUFFERING AND THE PATH OF LIBERATION by Chögyam Trungpa, Rinpoche (Thursdays, May 10th - June 14th, 6.30-7.30pm)
One of the great groundbreaking chapters in the introduction of Buddhism to the modern world is Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche's powerful teachings, articulating Buddhist insight and awakening beyond the limits of changing times and cultures. Trungpa Rinpoche's exceptional mastery of the language and concepts of the modern world is reflected in this brilliant work. The text shows us how the path of awakening is an actual and very real process, and how it can be pursued with a clear sense of purpose and direction.

Series 2: HOW TO BE COMPASSIONATE by H.H. the Dalai Lama (Thursdays, October 18th - November 22nd , 6.30-7.30pm)
We might have to humbly accept that compassion does not come easily - it is a muscle that needs to be trained. This study of a work by H. H. the Dalai Lama contains practical instructions on cultivating compassion. Inspired by the Buddha's enlightened courage, generations of men and women have kept alive a tradition of training the mind in kindness and compassion. In today's world we have no-one more qualified to present the profound teachings of this living tradition than His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. A gem of practical instruction, these teachings have been capably translated and edited by one of his senior translators - Prof. Jeffrey Hopkins.
