Through your great wisdom, you have realized nirvana.
Through your great compassion, you willingly embrace samsara.
Through your skill in methods you have realized they are no different.
Peerless Teacher, at your feet I bow.- Paltrul Rinpoche
The Words of My Perfect Teacher is one of the great Tibetan classics presenting the essential reflections basic for someone wishing to undertake the path to enlightenment. Written by Paltrul Rinpoche (1808-1887) who was famous for completely embodying what he taught, this book is considered to be particularly inspiring. While it does particularly address those practising the Tibetan tradition of Buddhism, the universal quality of Paltrul Rinpoche's teaching will make sense to any practicing Buddhist.
This program will be taught by Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche. Regarded as the third incarnation of Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo [1821-1892], and the immediate incarnation of Dzongsar Khyentse Chöki Lodrö [1894-1959], two of the most eminent figures of recent Buddhism in Tibet, Rinpoche has from a young age studied with some of the greatest Tibetan masters alive, particularly H.H. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. He has been active for the preservation of the Buddhist teaching, supervising his traditional seat of Dzongsar Monastery and its retreat centers in Eastern Tibet, as well as establishing new centers for the study and practice of the Buddhist teaching in India, Bhutan, and in the west. Rinpoche is well known for his direct and engaging way of teaching to a western audience. A branch of his organization, Siddhartha's Intent Western Door, is established in the San Francisco Bay Area. The Words of My Perfect Teacher is one of the best-loved introductions to the foundations of Tibetan Buddhism, constantly recommended by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and other eminent teachers. It provides a detailed account to the methods by which an ordinary person can transform his or her consciousness, and set off on the path to Buddhahood, the state of awakening and freedom.
