Taipei
12-14 May 2006

Space, whose nature is free of concepts;
Encompasses everything;
Likewise, the stainless expanse of the mind's true nature
Permeates all beings.

Maitreya - Asanga

We all possess an unconditioned and unchanging core of awakening, or buddhanature, however deep our confusion and suffering. From the point of view of this intrinsic nature, there is no difference between the exalted Buddha and ordinary sentient beings. Anyone who removes what obscures his or her true nature will become a buddha.

The Buddha Maitreya gave the Uttaratantra teaching to the great Buddhist master Asanga. One of the great classical texts of Mahayana Buddhism, it is particularly regarded as a bridge to the Vajrayana teachings, presenting how buddhanature exists within us, how it is approached, and what are the qualities of manifest buddhahood.
